How to Protect Your Skin on the 4th of July

Many of this year’s 4th of July festivities occur outside which means you need to be extra cautious with your skin. With the hot Tennessee weather in full play, it is important to protect your skin. Luckily for you, there are plenty of ways you can be proactive in maintaining healthy skin while still having a good time this holiday. Let Curcio Dermatology give you some of our top tips this season in keeping your skin as healthy as possible while having fun!

  1. SPF SPF SPF! It should be a given that SPF would be at the top of this list, but you’d be surprised how many people skip out on it. To combat the hot sun, you will want to make sure your moisturizer has SPF in it as well as pair it with your favorite sunscreen. Even if you are wearing makeup you can make sure you apply and reapply your sunscreen. There are plenty of powders and makeup SPF spray products that make reapplication seamless.
  2. Cover Yourself. Even with your sunscreen on, it is important to cover up and keep yourself out of direct sunshine. If you are at an event during the middle of the day or afternoon time, you will want to make sure you wear: a hat to protect your face, a shirt that covers your shoulders, and shoes that cover the tops of your feet. The sun can be extremely harsh on those body parts since they would be getting direct exposure. And not to mention, there are plenty of 4th of July hats, shirts, and shoes that will make your outfit look fun and festive while protecting your body.
  3. Use Makeup Remover. After a long day of sweating and partying, you will want to make sure you use a makeup remover before washing your face. Double cleansing will help make sure you get off any additional impurities like dirt, old SPF, or sweat from your face. If you leave those impurities on your face, you may be more prone to clogged pores and breakouts. You will be able to wake up for work the next day with a beautiful glow.

If you are wanting to improve your skin a few weeks before the 4th of July, you should look into getting one of Curcio Dermatology’s cosmetic and aesthetic procedures. Some of our most popular ones have little to no downtime that could improve your skin before or after your 4th of July festivities. Find out more information about Curcio Dermatology’s procedures at the link here.
