Skin cancer isn’t just something I treat in the office. It’s something I see in people I care about, and it affects more families than many realize. That’s one of the reasons I decided to join the American Academy of Dermatology’s “Skin Cancer, Take a Hike!” fundraiser.
To me, this hike is about awareness as much as it is about raising money. One in five Americans will face skin cancer at some point. That’s a huge number, and it’s a reminder that early detection and prevention are so important.
The funds raised go toward things that really matter – like free screenings, shade for kids at schools and playgrounds, and education that can truly save lives. These are simple but powerful steps that protect people.
When I walk, I’ll be thinking about my patients and also about the people who may not know yet that they’re at risk. I’ll be walking with hope. If you’d like to follow along, cheer me on, or make a donation, it would mean so much.
